Risk Analyst and Risk Manager Roles
|
|
Two key roles in Project Risk Management are the Risk Analyst and the Risk Manager:
• the RISK ANALYST establishes an understanding of what the risks are, what are the priorities among
them, how the risks might be addressed and what is the prognosis is for their impact on the programme;
• the RISK MANAGER drives the process of tasking risk reduction action / fallback preparation, of
managing its implementation as part of the project plan and of assuring (or reinforcing) its effectiveness.

MMA becomes involved in the Risk Analyst role, either undertaking this task in its entirety or lending its
independent perspective and experience to improving the quality of any risk assessment produced in-house.
The Risk Analyst role (and MMA's contribution to it) interfaces closely with the Risk Manager at the key stage
of reviewing the risk (when the project team "buys into" the risk assessment). For example, MMA suggests
possible risk reduction actions - and justifies the credentials of the risk assessment to the project team and
the client's customer alike.
The Risk Manager role is necessarily conducted in-house, in line with the philosophy that risk management
is essentially an aspect of the broader project management discipline. The contribution made by MMA to the
conduct of this role is facilitating the process and mentoring/training the project's people.
